Entre mariposas negras

Central to the performance was a virtuoso display of dancing by Brigitta Luisa. Her lively gestures, which were clearly performed throughout, her revealing arms and hands and, above all else, her brilliant zapateado, illustrated everything that ultimately makes the Cante Jondo so fascinating; a deeply felt look inwards. The audience, awe-struck, called for encores with rapturous applause.

They (Flamencos en route) do not have the whole night to play with. However, they pack so much into their hour-and-a-half performance that you could be excused for thinking that the performance had lasted a lot longer. All the fervour of the Flamenco dance is demonstrated in four densely packed pieces. At times the mood is peaceful, purely containing musical interludes, followed by eruptions of fiery passion. In either case it is intensive. This isn't a show where the Flamenco routines are allowed to lapse into any old, lively dance, this is a top quality artistic performance.
